To Conquer

On this day in 1066, my 29th Great Grand Uncle William, Duke of Normandy (aka William the Conqueror), defeated Harold Godwinson (aka Harold II King of England, also a very distant relative of mine and many of you) at the Battle of Hastings. William was crowned as King of England on Christmas Day 1066.

The wise do not expect to never suffer hardship or grief, instead they prepare for it. They do not expect to master anything worthwhile without effort. Instead they make effort. They do not expect to never have adversaries or to meet disagreement. Instead they contemplate before hand the best way of overcoming difficulties and challenges. From their enemies, from illness, failure or other tragedy, the wise person learns much and Conquers.
